All these requirements are fulfilled, without a doubt, by our beloved coastal town. That's why Sitges can be your ideal getaway this summer (or whenever you want)... and there are many reasons why you won't want to be found. Here are some.
It's obvious that the sea is one of the biggest attractions of Sitges and its beautiful beaches draw many people's attention every year. The fact that the town has coves and beaches with different sizes and characteristics is also very positive, since everyone can find their ideal beach in Sitges: nudist coves, urban or family beaches, hidden beaches that are far from everything... Most of them have basic services and even beach bars.
If you want more detailed information, in SitgesGroup we made a selection of our favorite beaches, in which we highlighted 10 of the 17 that Sitges has. Which one would you choose to put your umbrella and towel?
An ideal summer day, as we mentioned at the beginning of the post, usually includes a morning at the beach and an afternoon stroll - and in many cases, a nap and a party as well. In Sitges you can do everything.
Knowing all the possibilities that the town offers in terms of beaches, it is evident that the morning is already covered. But what happens next? The afternoon, after a siesta or not, is best time to get lost in the streets of Sitges and discover its history, almost by accident. Which is not little. One of the most known elements of the town is its church, the parish of San Bartolomé and Santa Tecla, which was built in the seventeenth century, although it has undergone many changes over the years. Even so, Sitges has much more history, a story that began more than 50,000 years ago, and to get to know it while strolling unhurriedly through the pretty streets of the town is a real pleasure.
But not everything will be laying on the beach and taking evening walks. Sitges is a town with a lot of life and its agenda is full of cultural events and festivals. If we focus on the summer season, there are three events that stand out: the Corpus Christi Festival in June, the Jardins Terramar Festival between mid-July and mid-August, and the Annual Sitges Celebration in August as well.
During the Corpus, the streets of Sitges are filled with flowers and it's really nice to walk around them. But if you are a music lover, you will want to come to Sitges during the weeks in which the concerts of the Jardins Terramar Festival are scheduled. This year, among the guests there are artists such as Texas, Gegory Porter, Gloria Gaynor, James Rhodes, and many others.
In case flowers and music were not enough for a perfect summer, Sitges celebrates its annual local festivity during the second half of August. A festival that has been declared of national interest by the Generalitat de Catalunya for its anthropological relevance, and which includes activities so that everyone has a good time.
Sitges has one more attraction: its location. This beautiful coastal town is about 45 minutes by car from Barcelona and less than 40 minutes by train. This means that you can stay in Sitges and enjoy its tranquillity and its beaches without having to give up everything the Catalan capital has to offer, since you will be able to go and visit it whenever you want, whether or not you have a private vehicle. Doesn't Sitges sound like a very good option?
